General Description

Vizzavona probably is one the most iconic and scenic spot in Corsica. Right in the heart of Corsican mountain, this site is truly magical.

Flight Description

Takeoff and cross the powerlines to the left. Beware not to get stuck between the lines and the mountain if conditions are too weak.

The flying domain is a triangle with at the base, the takeoff field and the ridge Costa del Pinello and on top, the Punta Ciuffello (5524ft/1684m).
Here the breeze’s dynamic effect, combined with strong thermals works wonders. This is a perfect starting point to go explore the Corsican mountains and their lakes.

For the landing you have three options:

At the takeoff field (best option)

Down near railway the track, at the tunnel exit. Watch out for the train.

Further away near the road. Beware of thermals at the edge of the terrain and of strong gradient.

Airpace Specificities

Vizzavona sits bellow the eastern edge of the TMA Ajaccio 5 that starts at FL085 (equivalent to 8500ft/2590m above the standard altitude) or 3000ft/300m above surface.
Outside of the TMA, the airspace is G class, normal rules apply (maximum 8500ft/3450m above mean sea level or 900m above surface).
It is not unusual to see VFR traffic flying through the Vizzavona pass.
