General Description

With Le Chapeau, and La Chapelle, Les Citernes is another site on this magic ridge of pevani. The site is often neglected in favor of the two others, but still offer a great starting point to go soaring on the Pevani ridge. Contact the local clubs for flight restrictions due to herds grazing.

Flight Description

Takeoff and immediately cross the powerlines to the right. Thermal lift usually occurs on the ridge. If you manage to climb, you can explore the Pevani ridge either to the west toward Le Chapeau or to the east toward La Chapelle. The landing field is pretty small, surrounded by trees and not always well aligned with the wind direction.

Airpace Specificities

Les Citernes is situated under TMA Ajaccio 1 that starts at 2000ft/610m above surface or at 2500ft/762m above mean sea level. When conditions are good, you'll come to this limit very quickly. If you go explore around, keep in mind the CTR that starts just south of the Pevani ridge.

Keep in mind those landmarks when flying:

Takeoff: ft/240m AMSL

Capu di u monte (small summit above the takeoff): 1417ft/432m AMSL

Monte San’t Agnelu (highest point to the east): 1138ft/347m AMSL

Punta Vida (summit at the La Chapelle takeoff): 1525ft/465m AMSL

San Bastino take off site: 2244ft/684m AMSL

Planes follow a VFR approach to the airport through the Listincone pass to the south east. They approach from the sea at low altitude. The site is situated straight in their path, you wouldn’t want to mess with those birds.
