| Description |
The site basically flies in all wind direction except east, which is very rare at ground level. In fact, when the wind stream is from the east, the air usually loops around the mountains and comes back in, either from the north or from the south. In this case, if the wind is strong in altitude, conditions can be rough.

The wind is also sometimes dictated by the strong thermals forming on the south faces. It is sometimes possible to fly on the south faces even if the global tendency is different.
|
| Access |
The site offers a lot of possibility and flexibility to get to, fly around and land.

Getting there:

From Appietto (20 to 30 minutes). Park near the townhall (Mairie), avoid the residential areas. Close all fences on the way.

From San Bastiano pass (35 to 45 minutes). Park below the Restaurant on the road to Pevani on the big dirt parking. Forbidden at some periods. Get in touch with local clubs.

From Calcatoggio (25 to 35 minutes). Less practical. Close all fences on the way

|

| General Description |
San Bastiano is a pass between two of the mains Gulfs in Corsica: The Gulf of Ajaccio south and the Gulf of Sagone north. At this pass there is a small Chapel that gives it name to the site of La Chapelle. However, the name San Bastiano is commonly used to designate the site situated higher on the ridge line between the two gulfs.

This is a classic site in Corsica, flown all year long, and in almost all wind directions, offering scenic 360 view from the mountains to the gulfs.

Contact the local clubs for flight restrictions due to herds grazing.
|
| Flight Description |
Zones of interest depending on the wind direction:

Rocks at the north of Punta Mulendinu

If conditions are fine, it is also possible to cross the ridge in either direction through the pass just west of the takeoff if you wish to rejoin the opposite side to land.
|
| Restrictions |
Contact the local clubs for flight restrictions due to herds grazing.
|
| Airpace Specificities |
The San Bastiano site is really close from the Ajaccio Airport and from the airways leading to its runway. The CTR zone starts just south of the site (right at the Listincone landing field). Don't fly straight to the Landing high in the Listincone pass. The TMA Ajaccio 1 starts at 2000ft/610m above surface or at 2500ft/762m above mean sea level.

Keep in mind those landmarks when flying:

take off site: 2244ft/684m AMSL

Punta Mulendinu (west of takeoff): 2030ft/619m AMSL

Punta San Sistro (highest point on the ridge to the east): 2874ft/876m AMSL

Punta Vida (small summit above the Chapel takeoff): 1525ft/465m AMSL

Planes follow a VFR approach toward the airport through the Listincone pass and just off the flying site to the south. Wave at the passengers if you want to, but be sure stay in the allowed limits, especially when transitioning south bound to the Listincone landing.
|
| Dangers |
Beware of dust devils.

Keep an eye out for the multiple powerlines in the sector.
|
