International Morse code (ITU-R M.1677-1): a dash lasts three dots, the gap inside a letter one dot, between letters three, between words seven. The speed is counted in words of five letters, as "PARIS" (50 dots a word: at 15 wpm a dot lasts 80 ms); the tone has no standard, 600 to 800 Hz is usual. Where two signs share a code, the first one listed is read back.
